Guide to restaurants in the Costa Calida/Murcia Region

Step off the plane in San Javier and you will find yourself within minutes of an abundance of superb restaurants from Los Alcazares (pronounced ‘los-alcatha-res’) to Mazzaron in the west, near the golf resorts of Condado de Alhama and Hacienda del Alamo.

Stay on any of the golf resorts in Murcia and you can enjoy the luxury of walking to the onsite facilities which include a restaurant and bar with a few resorts offering a choice of cuisine in high season. Do however, travel further afield to enjoy the culinary choices on offer in the Murcian district.

Los Alcazares, just five minutes from San Javier airport and on the Mar Menor coast is central to the majority of the golf resorts and within a 25 minute drive for most of the resorts and only 5 minutes from Roda Golf and Beach Resort. Choose from a choice of local Spanish restaurants or continental cuisine within the Balneario Plaza square, only 5 minutes walk from the sea promenade.

El Patiois awarm and welcoming Spanish restaurant that offers a unique dining experience. Situated opposite the Mercadona on the main road into Los Alcazares. Ramon’s Restaurant, located on Av de la Libertad (painted green.) is very popular with the locals and offers excellent Mediterranean dishes and a choice of mouth watering tapas. Why not wander down to the promenade and visit Hotel Encarnacion with its superb courtyard or sea view dining.

Located in the plaza at Los Alcazares are a number of British and International restaurants including the Penny Farthing and Pasty Shack; two Indian restaurants; Cocina Asiatic – an upmarket Chinese and Japenese with an excellent set menu at a reasonable price; an American diner, Italian and Spanish restaurants.

Torre Pacheco is a Spanish town five minutes from Mar Menor Golf Resort where you will find a selection of restaurants including La Bambinata, Pizzeria which is a good Spanish eating place and excellent value for money plus the 4 Caminos Spanish restaurant. The popular upmarket La Almazara restaurant is situated five minutes from the entrance to Mar Menor Golf Resort.

San Javier is a large busy town east of Los Alcazres where you have a wide selection of intercontinental restaurants and tapas bars. Excellent value is the Wok Buffet near the Mercadona supermarket, just off the turning from the airport. Here you will find other restaurants and shops.

A famous restaurant in San Pedro del Pinatar is La Casa del Reloj with suckling pig, fish and chateaubriand being a speciality and opposite is the superb Chinese Orientel Sur.  Down the road is nearby Pilar de la Horada where you will discover Mount Everest, a very good Indian restaurant plus El Gaiego, very reasonable priced and you must try the excellent steaks.

Sucina, only a few minutes from Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort and Peraleja Golf Resort, is situated just off the new road to Murcia. It is a delightful Spanish village with a beautiful church and a good selection of restaurants and bars popular with locals and British. Do try Rosario’s with its superb €9 three course menu del dia. Also excellent paellas and variety of tapas. Donde Ayer and El Mason Bodega wine bar plus Emma’s Bistro are also recommended.

North from El Valle Golf Resort and opposite Mosa Trajectum Golf Resort are two excellent local Spanish restaurants Airemar and Tres Hermanos, where you can also buy fresh meat and fish.

Although La Torre Golf Resort has a selection of restaurants within the resort, they are mainly open during high season, so wander down to the industrial estate, 5 minutes south, and you will find a Wok Chinese restaurant plus two very good Indian restaurants, the Alhambra Palace and Jupier Palace. To the north of the resort is Roldan, a small village with an Italian restaurant Gente d’Pasta where you can order take aways and also the Roldan Grill which has a very reasonable early bird menu plus the Spanish restaurant Las Olivias where you can also purchase take away paella.

In Camposol, near Condado de Alhama Golf Resort there is a lovely Spanish restaurant called Marianno’s plus an Indian and steak house. Towards the port is Salladillo with good tapas selection and Spanish food. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from in Mazarron and Puero de Mazarron.

La Manga Club is known for its delectable choice of gastronomy with more than 20 bars and restaurants. Venture further afield to Los Belones with a wide selection of cuisine and just outside La Manga Club. Visit El Pellizguito which specialises in meat dishes and in particular lamb, very popular with the Spanish. For lunch try the Spanish tapas at Rierpi or pizza at Puerto Azul Pizzeria. Campoverde near Los Nietos is very popular with the Spanish and is excellent value for money.

The small fishing port of Cabo de Palos is very popular with numerous restaurants dotted around the port and some with superb sea views and specialising in fish, including El Faro, El Navegante and Miramar.
