Monty’s big decision for Ryder Cup Team!
Gleneagles to decide on wild cards!
'I want my wild card picks to show support for European golf and the European Tour,' said Monty. 'I would be very surprised if I pick any player on the border of the team whom I ask to play at Gleneagles and they don't show up. I expect there will be eight candidates for my three wild cards and it should be a given that they turn up.'
In last week’s Czech Open, Peter Hanson knocked Paul Casey out of an automatic place in the Ryder Cup Team. Will Monty eat his words?
"I'll be very surprised if I pick any player on the border of the team whom I ask to play at Gleneagles and they don't show up," he said.
As the tournament kicks off at Glen Eagles, danger awaits for Francesco Molinari, Peter Hanson and Miguel Angel Jimenez! A big win for either McGowan, Dyson and Quiros could mean a place in the team! Miguel Angel has at the last minute decided to play at Glen Eagles.
On the border!
Paul Casey, Padraig Harrington, Justin Rose, and Luke Donald are remaining in UK but did Monty ask them to play? If Monty sticks to his word we could be in for a massive shock with all four 'names' being omitted but he couldn't, could he? It's not as if he doesn't have alternatives though...
Assuming the lists stays the same, who will be Monty’s three?
World No 9 – Paul Casey – good record in Ryder Cup. Past winner of the Matchplay at Wentworth, twice a runner-up in the Accenture Matchplay and came close at the recent Open.
World No 10 - Luke Donald – unbeaten in Ryder Cup partnership and played brilliantly at Celtic Manor
World No 18 - Padraig Harrington – poor record in Ryder Cup – winner of three major championships but is he on form?
World No 21 - Edoardo Molinari – yet to play in Ryder Cup – would make a natural parter for brother Francesco
World No 22 - Justin Rose – great partnership with Ian Poulter in Ryder Cup
World No 31 - Robert Karlsson – played on previous two Ryder Cup teams. Will he win at Cleneagles?
World No 53 – Rhys Davies – shooting 62 to come second in the Welsh Open at Celtic
Do you think Monty will stick with the tried and trusted despite what he said back in June?
