Annual Flamenco Festival – Cante de las Minas
Holidaymakers staying in Murcia in August 2010 will find no shortage of exciting events taking place including the annual Flamenco Festival held in the small village of La Union, just outside La Manga Club.
From August 3rd for a week the festival promises to be an event that the whole family can enjoy and is a must for people keen to soak up the Spanish culture. One of Spain's most popular and authentic flamenco festivals, it features some of the country's best dancers and musicians.
The old La Unión Public Market is the site for this major festival, representing the flamenco history of the mining tradition in this area of Murcia. It includes a succession of performances of singing, dance and guitar, completing the three facets of flamenco expression, with local talent seeking to win the coveted trophy – the miner’s lamp for the best singer.
During the week of the festival there are other parallel activities such as exhibitions, wine tastings, projections, flamenco soirées, literary presentations, poetry recitals, courses (guitar playing, dance and percussion) for different levels, and talks.
Admission to all the festival's activities is free and tickets can be purchased at the box office on the day of the show or online for advance purchase
