Cancellation of air strikes in Spain over the Easter period has brought out airlines releasing cheaper flights.
AENA, the Spanish Airports Authority have reached an initial agreement with the unions to cancel all strikes which will hopefully be ratified by the workers.
President of Spain Zapatero has confirmed that“There is an agreement that will avoid the strikes and thus ensure full normality of the airports and the mobility of citizens.”
This is excellent news for airlines, tour operators, holidaymakers, owners and businesses in Spain who rely on tourism for their livelihood.
The strikes were to be held in protest at Government plans to nationalize 49% of AENA, which could have meant jobs lost. Although the unions are still opposed to the privatisation, following an agreement that no jobs will be lost and that their members will be protected, they have agreed to cancel the strikes. The Secretary of State for Transport, Isaías Táboas, believes that it is now safe for passengers to make travel plans for Easter and the rest of 2011.
Ryanair have brought out £8 flights which expires midnight on 21st March whilst BMI Baby have also got a 40% discount on a number of flights to Spain. Although the agreement still has to be approved, it does seem encouraging that travel plans to Spain will not be affected by industrial strike action.
